Joseph

October 24, 2019

GOAL:

To show youth that sometimes, life will suck – and there’s nothing you can do about it. But regardless of what happens, God is always working things out for our good.

CONVERSATIONS STARTERS:

Go around the room and have everyone share one high point (best thing) and one low point (worst thing) about their week

If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring three things, what would you bring?

Would you rather be sold into slavery by your siblings, or falsely accused and thrown in jail for the rest of your life?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

What did you think about the story of Joseph, and how he was a good guy who constantly had bad things happen to him?

Imagine for a second you were Joseph, and your brothers sold you into slavery – how mad would you be? How about if you were falsely accused & thrown in prison for no reason?

    • Do you think Joseph would have been right to be angry at his brothers & his false accuser?

During her sermon, Kim told a story about how all these horrible things kept happening in her life (mom getting really sick, car accidents, dad losing job, grandpa dying); yet now she is grateful that all that happened because it brought her closer to god.

      • What did you think of the story Kim told?
      • If all this would have happened to you, how do you think you would have reacted to the whole thing? Do you think you would be able to see the good in all that bad?

Read Romans 8:28 TPT – “So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives”

      • What do you think this verse is trying to say? Do you agree with it?
      • Do you think God actually uses bad things and turn them into good things? What makes you think the way you do?

Do you find it difficult to trust in God when life gets hard? What makes trusting God easy or difficult?

    ACT IT OUT:

Life is not always as easy as we wish it to be – and often there will be problems and hard situations that come up that make us hate life. But the reality is that God loves each of us – and no matter what, He will use the bad situations to create good in our lives.

This week, we want to encourage you to remind yourself – whenever you are struggling with life, or whenever something bad happens – remind yourself that God loves you, He’s protecting you, and He will use whatever bad thing is happening in your life and will turn it into something good.

    PRAYER TIME:

Ask your group/child if there are any prayer requests or praise reports that they would like to share. Take a moment and pray over all the requests.
